Mitzel Moderates Seminar on Tax Considerations for Estates and Trusts

Attorney Dennis Mitzel will moderate and present at the Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE) seminar: Post-Death Tax Planning and Preparing Fiduciary, Estate, and Gift Tax Returns. Seminar attendees will learn the nuts and bolts of the various tax returns filed for an estate. Dennis’ presentation will be focused on determining the basis of assets held in a decedent’s estate. Under Internal Revenue Code ยง 1014(a) the general rule applied to property is that a beneficiary receives a new basis equal to the fair market value of the property at the date of death. Dennis will discuss this and the many exceptions to the rule as well as other considerations. The seminar will be held on September 11, 2014 at St. John’s Inn in Plymouth, Michigan.
